Heres something that I haven’t seen in my garden for years, which I believe to be a mottled Grasshopper- Myrmeleotettix maculatus. I was over the moon to see it and hope that it is indicative of an increasing local population. Cheers Steve

Bet you'd be gutted if you saw it hanging out a flytrap later on this evening, did you get the pic on first attempt or did it make you work for it by jumping just in time

I have plenty of pictures of what look like sticks in the undergrowth, then it obliged, just as if it was being interviewed by Attenborough. Fortunately this was a large individual, (probably an 11/2” long in the head and body) and looking too robust to become a victim of the fly traps, but I did make sure it hopped off to a safer place, inside the chillie cloche as a matter of fact. Well they are like busses, you don’t see one for years then two turn up on the same day! I say two it could be the same individual having a sojourn through one of the Sarracenia bogs.
