It's not a good photo but the subject is a male and he's just mated several times. The female was very compliant, he must have had the right moves . A little too dark to get the whole scene unfortunately.

Spider sex can be a risky endeavor for the male, unless the female has been very well fed, and is still not hungry. You might say that he got lucky...twice. dvg

There appears to be an abundance of small spiderlings at present. I'd normally expect much larger spiders at this time of year. There's still enough of the larger ones to try to prevent access to everywhere though. They do look amazing against the morning light.

The web made by this grand lady stretches between a Toadflax and a Phlox, a distance of 6ft.

Nice camera capture of her hairs and markings Fred.
How large would you estimate her to be?

This one has taken up residence in the bottom greenhouse and has decided that the besy location for he web is across the middle. This makes my movements in there very difficult and I've already walked into it about 4 times this morning. She gesture at me every time but refuses to move. she's just sitting in the middle patiently waiting dinner. She's backlit against the morning sun so not a lot of light on her body.
