A few weeks ago the computer expert I made (earlier) recommended Windows 10 (W10). He said it incorporated the best of Windows 7 (W7) and Windows 8 (W8) which means there's not a lot of W8 in there. I tried it and wasn't entirely happy as I couldn't find everything immediately so I went back to Windows 7 within 3 hours.
Microsoft, later. in their wisdom forced me to download and reinstall Windows 10 along with the usual Windows Updates, ( They claim it was an error and shouldn't have happened this way and had corrected the situation. There must be an anomaly in the time continuum or something as it wasn't sorted on my computer a couple of days after their statement.) by not having the choice to deselect the W10 download. I therefore allowed the operating system to fully install ( It doesn't take that long and it is painless), spent a little more time checking what I could do to improve The Windows 10 layout rather than just going straight back to Windows 7. All the files from W7 are still where they were and it's just a matter of pinning the ones most frequently used to Start or Task Bar
I'm now happy to say I'll be staying with Windows 10. I've filled up the start menu with the programs (apps) I use most of the time and demoted some of the default apps. For browsers, I used Chrome before and still do so that is no different. IE was my secondary browser and that's been replaced by Microsoft Edge which doesn't appear to be that different.
I sometimes miss my sidebar with the clocks and other apps but it's possible to have these on Windows 10 if you really want to have them, it's just a small download and all the gadgets will work as before. I decided not to bother for now.
I must mention that W10 has cured a problem I had on W7 with the music library. My music files are a little extensive but it sorted it all out very quickly. W7 was still struggling to do so after over a year.
All in all it's worth the effort to get accustomed to the new OS. I haven't found any problems so far so it's definitely a keeper for me.
Just don't expect to have it as you want it within 10 minutes.
