think this is as good as it's going to get this year ,not a patch on previous years but still earning its place on the windowsill

almost a month behind last year by the looks of things, now I've left watering this plant until after flowering this year and previous years but is that the right thing to do? I had a quick read and I am under the impression that in the wild they flower after the first rain ,does anyone know wether I should give it a drink before it blooms. At the moment I'm going with" if it ain't broken don't fix it " but of cause if I get more flowers and a happier plant I'll give an earlier water a go

Many of the BCSS were saying they'd done their first watering a couple of months ago corky. It will also depend on what temperatures you have. They obviously have heating in their greenhouses.
One has the guideline of - he waters when the Daffodils are full out

I went ahead with the watering, thought this pic from today was good at showing how the plant has doubled in size, I'll have to wait and see if the flowering gets more spectacular

Lots of flower buds opening and others on their way, your plant must be happy, Corky. Only have one Mammillaria specimen, a seed grown theresae, it's slow, but growing on its own roots. Would love to see this one flower some time...it's already about 10 years old. dvg

Had to Google that species as I know nothing about mammillaria, that certainly is a great looking species

It's recently been placed in a south-facing window, which should help keep it more compact and less prone to stretching.
Before that, it was grown under lights, but artificial lights are a poor substitute for the sun.

The watering certainly doesn't seem to of had any negative impact

Had forgotten that i still had this Texas Nipple Cactus. I had lost its label, and i'd also forgotten it's latin name, but i remembered it was a fairly common species, that it was a Mammillaria species.... Here it is flowering this afternoon, growing on a west facing windowsill - Mammillaria prolifera. Not nearly as showy as Corky's displays, but as Steve likes to say, "They still bring a smile to my face". dvg

Yes, when i noticed that some flowerbuds had formed last week i gave the plant a small drink, but just let the water run through without the pot sitting in standing water.
