Looking nice Corky, with a lot more fronds by the look, it is enjoying the additional space. Cheers Steve

I have prepared the Dicksonia for the winter today, in the same manner as in previous years, there were only 32 fronds cut off this year, average length 52” again, but there are fewer than in the past few years, whether that’s climatic or because of other reasons I can’t tell, but I think a good dose of fertiliser next year would be a good idea. The sori are immature unfortunately, pictures of the sporangia below. I have saved one frond to see if the warmth of the house is enough to ripen them, so I can grow them on. The seedlings from this very same exercise last year are pictured below, which, as you can tell I haven’t got round to pricking out, and if I did I’m not sure where I could put them. I’m living by the age old adage “you can’t have too many Dicksonia”. Cheers Steve

I uncovered the main plant on March 12th, to my chagrin I found the crown was wet and some embryo fronds were decidedly brittle and dead looking, although those i picked had some green in the centre. I will obviously leave it to sort itself out and let you know when/if growth starts. The wind and sun will help it along hopefully. I still have seedlings and pot-bound plants if you feel the need. Cheers Steve

Covered the plant today for winter, it was not absolutely necessary as the weather is so mild, but I won’t have a chance in the next few weeks to do it. So better safe than sorry. Well, there are only 19 fronds on it this year, average 50”, I can think of no real reasons why there are so few, could be the early problem with the crown, or the wet weather, mit didn’t throw out any autumnal fronds as it normally does. I will give it some fertiliser and attention next year and see if that cures it.
Cheers Steve
