Yep I've also used this method of microwaving peat and sealing in a bag for growing fern spores and it has worked well in the past, so it's a thumbs up from me

Yes, i as well have only used the microwave and baggy method for growing fern spores. Only tried the thrice-rinsed peat once; might even find a bit leftover in a labelled bag somewhere here if i looked for it. By and large, the peat is used as is, out of the bag as Fred suggested, and is wetted and usually mixed with other aggregates. It is then tended to as needed, in the case of something untoward rearing its ugly mug, such as a green jelly slime on the soil's surface arising. (Usually it involves some scraping and possibly some sand being applied to the soppy spot, as well as better ventilation being installed, once out of the baggy, of course) dvg

The seedlings are coming on a pace outside in the sunshine. They are all my own seeds taken from my ‘typicals’, as you can see the variation is quite pleasing. first off some were lost to birds, despite my covers and scarers . Cheers Steve

I started growing Venus Flytraps in 2007. I bought seed from Aidan Selwyn (eBay merchant Insektenfang but no longer trading). I got seedlings and I still have plants that are result of being split. They are large and robust. I use an electric propagator set at 25°C. I have used various lamps but my current lamps are a Sansi 33 Watt LED bulb and a cheap Red/Blue 10 Watt LED lamp.
I have settled on TP-Link Tapo TP P100 timers. They are a Smart switch that you schedule to go ON and OFF at when you want by using a Smartphone or tablet. They cost £8.99 from ARGOS at present. They are fairly easy to set up on to your broadband router. There is a Manual override switch on the gadget.

This prolonged dry sunny period, whilst causing its own problems, is creating colour in the outdoor seedlings. Cheers Steve

Well these are some of the indoor seedlings, although that’s not a strictly an accurate description of them now as some have flowered and are therefore mature. As you can see they are larger and more lush than the outdoor seedlings that will take another year outside, to catch up. These are my own s Ed from typicals but as you can see display a wide variety of genetic differences, the largest trap being about 35mm. You can probably get the size of them from the wasp in the trap of the first picture. Cheers Steve
