There's actually a third oreophila cross. This one looks more like Herc but it has yellow flowers. Fred, was your third oreophila cross made with S.flava? Which one was the seed parent and the pollen donor, if you still have that info in your records? dvg I just have it as oreophila x flava Doug. I can't guarantee the correct order of the parents

A closer look at some of the plants. Did I ever mention that another Slack cross was one of my favourites? Lynda Butt.

They're all very nice Fred! Which Sarracenia is the hood attached to in your first pic of this gang of hoods? The purple veining on that white background is very pleasing to the eye. dvg

That's one of the Leucophylla I appear to have a few of. The flowers are held very high but are pathetic and never form as they should, the pitchers are good.

Anyone for nectar? The flavas were looking good this morning with the nectar all around the edges of the hoods/lids. I climbed up on a stool to get a better view and thought things look a lot different from up there. Nowadays I tend to be always looking up at the tall pitchers as they're growing so well. This was the one I noticed first Up on the stool. It only appears to be the flavas. I couldn't see the other species doing the same.

This must be the best year I've ever had with S. minor. The plants retained their pitchers over the very mild winter and then got a boost with all that spring sunshine. I was up on the stool again to have a look at how the plants at the back were performing. This S. x moorei was looking quite good but really it's only showing off to a nutter standing on tiptoe on a stool . It's supposed to be taller than the flavas. Oh! the flies can see it too Also over the back but standing tall enough to be seen whilst standing on the floor is Slack's S. 'Burgundy'. The sun we've had hasn't done the colouring on that any harm.

The thumb nail sized flower of S. rubra gulfensis heterophyllaI think this shows why I now need the stool.

but really it's only showing off to a nutter standing on tiptoe on a stool . Maybe a sturdy compact stepladder would better keep you from harm's way Fred. But your pics of the nectar rings circling the flava hood tops, might have been worth the risk. dvg
