Their comedy sketch series ran from 1989 to 1995 on the CBC in Canada.

Maybe after 25 years, they had collectively accumulated enough fresh material to put together an eight episode effort.

Probably a combination of adding to their legacy and doing a new project to help reboot their careers.

Of course, this is only speculation on my part.
