Hello all,
Just found this site from Freds postings on BCSS forum. I have varied interests in plants but the main interest is Carnivores, very closely followed by Cacti and Succulents with native British Orchids bringing up the rear! Looking forward to being a valued member of the forum.
Cheers, Fly.

Hi Fly, welcome aboard. Your plant interests mirrored mine when i first began in this plant hobby. I was torn between which plant groups i truly wanted to concentrate on, the carnivorous ones versus the prickly, spiky succulent ones. After a number of years of collecting both groups and starting many cacti species from mail-ordered seed, the CPs eventually won out, but i still have a soft spot for well grown cacti and other succulents. Fly, what CPs do you grow and what species are your current faves? Cheers, Doug dvg

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the welcome :-) I only have a couple of CPs at the moment, Drosera capensis and an unnamed sarracenia! I have however recently got hold of some vft seeds, so if anyone could help me with the best time and way to sow them that would be great.
If your interested in my C and S faves, I like, and grow Sulcorebutia, Rebutia, Aylostera, Aloe and Haworthia
If anyone can advise me on substrate for vft seeds that would be fab as well!!
Cheers again, David.

Hi David, the vft seeds can be sown immediately as they don't require a cold stratification. You can sow those seeds on the surface of a 1:1 peat/sand or peat/perlite mix. Your succulent faves brought a smile to my face. I bought and started many Aloe species from seed. The same goes for the Rebutia and Sulcorebutia genera. I got so caught up in them i ordered two books by John Pilbeam, detailing each genus...great flowers and clumping forms! Cheers, Doug dvg

Hi David and welcome aboard!! You are at the apex of a very slippery slope, it starts with one Sarracenia and some capensis, then before you know it, the greenhouse and the garden iare full of all sorts and forms , and the wallet of emptyness, stares you in the face. But it is absorbing. Cheers Steve
