This hardy prairie winter tested cherry tree is putting out a lot of fruit this year. These will ripen to almost black. Tried a darker coloured one today and was quite impressed with the flavour, it wasn't totally ripe, but was still tasty, though not tart, but with a slight undertone of sour. dvg

Steve there is also an 'Evan's Cherry' in the yard and the robins here will peck at the fruit on that tree. In years past, netting was placed over the "Evan's Cherry' to dissuade the robin from damaging the fruit, but that practice was discontinued - there are enough cherries to go around, even with the birds taking their small cuts. dvg

Round by us there is a large cherry tree that has potentially a great harvest of cherries, but these are decimated by the local birds.

Steve i can't comment on British birds behaving badly, but over here the birds seem to be leaving our cherry trees be.
