I bought 50 of these little chaps, the common minnow, and introduced them into the pond. The reasoning is that they will keep the pond cleaner (i do have the occasional leech that I would like to eradicate) by eating algae and smaller prey such as daphnia, rotifers and the like. At their breeding rate, being several times a season, and perspicacity to shoal, they will keep the pond full of life, although many will succumb to the attentions of the larger fish. Not the best time of year to do this (note the ice covering on the pool) but I was assured they were outdoor reared (in Scotland) so were used to the conditions. I had problems with the Royal Mail and their delivery, but they did move heaven and earth to get them to me before (in my opinion) it was too late.. Cheers Steve

I miss my fish tanks. I don't think asking MrsG If I can dig a pond in the garden is likely to get encouragement though.
