spring must be in the air,wouldn't of seen this as they're programed to stay dead still but I walk the dog early with a powerful headtorch on( I wear the torch) and the eye shine gave it away, stowed away in some brambles, I didn't hang around long edit. After a bit of reading up it's probably a monkjac deer so spring may not be in the air as they breed all year and roe deer have young in May, I've seen both in these woods so I suspect it's a monkjac but feel free to enlighten me if you know better

Nice find there Corky. I was expecting to read that your dog sniffed him out. We have white-tailed deer and mule deer here, so i probably wouldn't know your monkjacks much at all...but i do like the name. dvg

Monkjac are a deer from China and are now classed as an invasive species , hope that doesn't take the shine off the cute little chap

Loads of them in the area I live, I'm surprised they're protected and classed as invasive

We have a large number of them in the rural areas round here, pretty to look at but destructive critters. You can see a far few as road kill, normally the corpses disappear very quickly.
