I have only one mature Sarracenia plant in the greenhouse, it is a ''Goldie'' or 'Goldie' (i never know whether this is registered or not, it doesn't appear on the ICPS as registered, but various quality authorities do put it in single quotation marks) which I wanted to save the pollen off for some crosses. So rather than leave it outside to the vagaries of the wind, I put it inside so I can pop the pollen in the fridge. The way things are going however, due to these cold snaps, all the outdoor flowers are miles behind, so the pollen may well have lost its viability before I can use it. It will be interesting to see when the first outdoor flower opens to see the time differential.... watch this space. Cheers Steve

So the very first outdoor bloom, opening only today, goes to SFC06 X SFR09 = flava cuprea x flava rubricorpora heavily veined. This particular clone leans heavily towards the cuprea parentage. Just goes to show the influence of even a simple unseated greenhouse, 17 days difference although if this clone was in a greenhouse I fancy it woul have flowered earlier than the ‘goldie’ above. I know there is a lot of hype about ‘Goldie’ but you’ve gotta say it makes a beautiful colour. Cheers Steve

After the yellow flowers the hybrids start with some red flowers, then finally come the leuco’s purpurea and rubra’s with the proper red flowers. At least for me anyway. The fist two pictures are of different, unknown hybrids with the last being a maxima x areolata freckled. Cheers Steve

The next set out are the purpureas and their hybrids. The last set to come out for me are the leucophylla and anthocyanin free plants, of any species, of any sort… watch this space. Cheers Steve

This one has me a little vexed, it’s a seed grown flava, red tube giant X rugelii. The smallness of the flower the pink blush and light petals seem to show introgression. Cheers Steve

Well the anthocyanin free plants have beaten the leucophylla by about a week at a guess. This is the first of many SL48, leucophylla anthocyanin free Bill Scholl x anthocyanin freee flava Brunswick County. There are also a number of flava ‘Suspicion’ in flower in the bogs but I can’t get to them for a picture, you’ll just have to imagine how good they are. Funnily enough non of the purpurea hetrophylla have put up a flower spike this year. Cheers Steve
