This is the Dwarf Red Brazilian Tree Fern, I suppose it could be the Red Dwarf Brazilian Tree Fern but then you'd be expecting Kryten to be tending it. The new fronds are red and in this particular cultivar 'Volcano' I'm expecting them to be very red, we'll see . It's reputedly only semi-hardy withstanding frosts down to -5C so will have to remain potted, therefore not part of the Fernery. It's also recommended for very good light which again rules it out in there. This particular plant came in a 9cm pot and on inspection the root ball completely filled the pot and there were many white tips showing. I re-potted to a 13cm pot and it doesn't look out of place. Blechnum brasiliense 'Volcano'

It wasn't hardy enough for the conditions I had it in corky. These S. American Blechnum don't like it here.

I thought that might be the answer, I may still get a plant but give it protection in the coldest months

The two "plug plants" I purchased a couple of months ago are romping away. What a bargain these were.

The plants have been moved out of the greenhouse ( under the bench) into the fernery. They were in there all winter side by side in identical everything. Specimen 1 has done pretty well, no problems. Specimen 2. Completely died off, it started showing a crozier just before binning time. Now a whole three fronds. At least it still exists.
