An early visit to this particular meadow. It puts on a very fine show of many orchids throuhout the season predominately Dactylorhiza fuchsii. These are not quite out yet ( see last picture) but I was very pleasantly surprised to see these little purple gems. Unfortunately I haven't ID'd them yet but they look just as good without a name. Purple thingies

MrsG forced me to buy a pocket orchid ID book so we now have a pretty good idea what these are now The darker ones are the Northern Marsh Orchid - Dactylorhiza purpurella and the lighter one is the Southern Marsh Orchid - Dactylorhiza praetermissa.
The bottom photo is still the Common Spotted Orchid - Dactylorhiza fuchsiiUnless you know better

Orchid video No.3 for 2016.
It's a little longer than the first two as it's difficult to stop taking photos when there's so much good subject around.
I hope you enjoy.

Another day, another site. This is a SSSI near Mansfield. The Orchids on site include Dactylorhiza, Neottia ovata - Twayblade and Gymnadenia conopsea - the Fragrant Orchid.
