I found a pot of Doodia media on a market stall and the fronds looked quite attractive. I potted it up in a long tom and it's been sitting down at the Fernery waiting for me to find a permanent spot for it. Meanwhile the plant has been sending up new fronds and they are nicely coloured and textured, they show up well against the other ferns' fronds. It looks like its going to be one of those very worthwhile spot buys.

Very nice Fred, forgive my ignorance but is that wave type formation joint to the axil typical or peculiar to your plant or a variable for the species?
Cheers Steve

This was planted out in the Fernery extension last autumn. It is now no more. Bought as a hardy fern it didn't make it through the very mild winter so in future if another one comes my way it will be regarded and tender and given winter protection. Pot/tub culture is the only way to go with this one. Ah well I've been forced to find a different plant to replace this in the Fernery and it looks like it's going to be a Japanese one.

Another one came my way. It was extremely expensive too. A whole £2 from Morrisons. It's now in a 3 litre pot and it looks ok in that size. All I have to do now is remember to give it some protection over next winter
