I originally planned a siege battery of 24 pounders but circumstances put that on hold. I'd recently finished painting a Revell gun crew ( They sat on the painting tray for a year ) so the project was reborn at ¼ size. I mounted the gabions, the larger four were painted in 2012, on a base I then went off to find a suitable gun carriage to take the 24 pounder barrel and came up with an Italeri French 12 pounder carriage that could work. Checking the carriage would be reasonable I took a look at my stock photos and came up with this illustration. Which of course lit my fuse to have the planked gun platform. This I made with a piece of balsa, a ruler, a cocktail stick and a wooden skewer. The result being painted Mocha and then overwashed with an Earthshade wash. Putting this into position meant that the middle gabions were now a little on the low side so they had to be raised. Things were definitely taking shape. Next I added the earth and grass effects to the front, added figures to the back and repeated the ground effect. Meanwhile as I had the one figure standing on the platform I removed his base, drilled up his leg inserted a hot wire and touched up his trousers ( With paint I mean ) The result was Which will do for now
