Cymbidium goeringii is a native of NW India, Bhutan, China,Taiwan, Ryukyu Islands, Japan and Korea as a small, cool growing terrestrial with small ovoid pseudobulbs carrying linear-elliptic, acute, arched leaves with fine toothed margins that blooms in the winter and spring on a basal, erect, basally sheathed 4" (10cm) long, solitary to few [1 to 3] flowered inflorescence. Breathe The flowers are fragrant, 2" (5cm) across and held low amid the leaves. The plant has been a perennial favourite of Japanese and Chinese culture for centuries. I grow mine in a standard terrestrial orchid compost on the floor in an unheated greenhouse and I water it when I remember. The leaves are evergreen.

Still going It's not as if the plant is pampered, it's barely looked at.

Hi Fred, if you keep it in an unheated greenhouse, does it tolerate frost quite well?

They will take -10C quite happily. The cold actually assists in forming flowering buds.

MrsG spotted it being sly with its flowering again. It lives under one of the lagoons and with the green colouring to the petals, it's very easy to overlook. The other flower is still opening so it probably hasn't been overlooked for too long.
