This is a roadside verge in full bloom in 2012. The location is close to the local recycle centre (dump). As can be seen in the photos there is a wonderful display of bee orchids (Ophrys apifera) and other wildflowers. The verge has been kept "tidy" with frequent grass cutting ever since so the orchids etc. have disappeared. I don't know about you but I know what I'd rather see and it would save money.
Hi Fred I'm with you as I'm sure most people would be, especially having seen the abundant beauty of the verge. Have you had a word with the local authority at all and explained the situation? They probably see it as a verge in need of maintenance before someone trips over some foliage and makes a claim, but I have known some of them change the mowing regime to protect some plants.
