Thanks for those resource links Fred. Found this info, that answered a question, in the first link: "Grow the seedlings for one complete year without withholding water. They should be the size of a small pea by then."And also learned that there is an analytical key for the genus Lithops, or several attempts have been made at said keys. And surely there is an ambitious "clumper" furiously working on his new solution to the Lithops problem... ....by reducing Lithops down to a monotypic genus, with two subspecies, and many varieties offshooting from those. dvg

Desmond Cole and his wife are the reference to go to with Lithops. If you can find a copy of their books it will help. You may need to remortgage the house though. That Nel book can sell for over $200 and it's relatively ancient. Briam Fearn owns the Abbey Brooke Cactus Nursery just west of here. He has a / the National Collection of Lithops . When we went over the other week I came out of the sales greenhouse and MrsG was chatting to this 82 year old who was working at the nursery. I just held my hand out and said "Hello Brian". He's looking good

You are fortunate to live so close to a world renowned and respected authority on the subject.
Of course, it doesn't hurt that he's a good fellow too.
