Best luck with overwintering it Corky.
Noticed that you blackened the thumbnail on your left hand...ouch!
Looks like that hurt a bit at one time.
Care to share that war story?

Tried to get a stick off my dog and he went for a better grip and grabbed my thumb along with the stick, I like to think accidentally, ouch indeed

Well at least you didn't have to have the thumbnail removed by a doctor.
How is your training coming along with Buddy.
You did say he was a handful, so hopefully some progress is being made.

Almost gave up on this producing any fronds this year but they're on the way finally getting quite chunky in the trunky too, seems to be a few fronds that didn't grow and maybe that's why it seems such a late starter, don't know why ,could be the very hot weather early on

I like the Blechnum but I've not had much luck with overwintering them. I have a couple of Volcano to have another go this year

Thought I'd do a one year on pic of the plant as it's a year since the pics at the start of the thread, leaves this year are substantially larger ,nice looking fern I reckon my hands are the same size they were last year for reference

bit behind last year and I'm sure I should mulch them in winter to get an earlier start and less damage to the fronds , after geeking out I've moved the pot to a sunnier location as apparently that's how they grow naturally, also I've seen them grown successfully at the Edinburgh botanical gardens in a sunny location on tinternet, hopefully this won't kill it off but it's a high risk business this fern growing

Hi Corky, was this fern in full shade previously, or in dappled sunlight for part of the day?
Are you now attempting to move it into full sun?
Don't know too much about ferns, but not too late to learn, either.

Yes the plant was in dappled sunlight the last couple of years and now I've moved it into pretty much full sun , not sure how the old leaves will fare but they look terrible anyway and I've read the plant should cope with the sun so I'm giving it a go, will update in the next month or so
