Received some P. gigantea from Cole last year and remembered that this species has glands on both of its upper and lower leaf surfaces. This is the purple flowering variety, but no flowers from these yet. They are quite dewy even at a smaller size. dvg

These have been taking their time, but in fairness to them, they weren't getting a whole lotta food sent their way. But now with a few more critters on their platters, they're getting to the point that they'll need their own flats soon. dvg

These two now have some extra elbow room, in their own side-by-side 4" pots. dvg

Here is one of the gigantea clones from above, earlier today. And this is the other larger clone, still in its 4" pot. These clones seem to grow larger and greener leaves while under a dome, as opposed to being directly under lights, sans dome. Finally, the two clones together. dvg

Another update on these two. The larger clone is providing its first flower, under my care. And a side shot... dvg

Was surprised that the species flower here is considerably smaller than its hybrid, the gigantea x emarginata #16 clone flower, despite the emarginata flower being so tiny -- hybrid vigor? dvg

Noticed that my gigantea clones have been employing their leaf-bottom sticky traps to capture more gnats than the leaf-top traps have caught. This leaf-bottom has been busy tending to its now grounded frequent flyer visitors. dvg

Love the colour of the flower and the plants look immaculate.

This is the smaller of the two of these same clones growing here. For some reason it has always remained the smaller sized clone and has also never flowered here. Today it's bottom was cleaned of all it dead roots and dried leaves. If it doesn't improve, it will be repotted into a more organic substrate. dvg

This purple flowered clone is sending out another flower. The previous flower had some pollen from hemiepiphytica applied to it. Now gigantea will be selfed and any additional pollen will be transferred to a hemiepiphytica flower to make the reverse cross. dvg
