I looked, and there he was, with large hood touching the far left frame - Hercules strikes again! dvg

Ah Doug. The plant you're looking at is another Slack cross. That one is S. oreophila x minor. The hood is smaller than Herc and not erect. It looks more like its minor parent. Herc is in his own thread now

Thanks for pointing that out Fred.
Have you had the S. oreophila x minor for decades as well?

Oreophila figures large in your Slacks crosses Fred, is that by design or just a hapanstance of what was available at the time? cheers Steve

Fred, since there's been a resurgence of interest in the Adrian Slack created S. oreophila crosses here in the past week, and because you have some mature specimens, would it possible to place a pot of oreophila x minor next to Herc? Though Hercules is crossed with purpurea, rather than minor, there are similarities in both pitchers, due to the shared oreophila parentage. Seeing both mature crosses, side by side, should also show more clearly their physical differences. If it is possible, and isn't too much strain and effort (don't hurt yourself there ), it would be a treat to see those two together. dvg

I'd rather do that when its a little cooler in those greenhouses Doug. It's a bit warm out there.

There's actually a third oreophila cross. This one looks more like Herc but it has yellow flowers.
Steve, When Slack got me interested in CPs with his first book people up here would throw plants at you because there weren't that many of either, people or plants. Many of these would have been originally sourced from Slack's Nursery. There was no internet and no mobile phones so we used to meet quite a lot and pass on propagated stuff. It was a good time to be in the hobby.
