These blechnum magellanicum spores were obtained from a seed seller in Chile, sown on damp peat and silica sand which had been microwaved until piping hot and cooled. Then placed in a takeaway container, spores sown and covered in cling film (cling wrap) no holes, container placed to the side and approximately three feet from florescent grow light in my infinite wisdom I forgot to put a sowing date on them, spores were mixed with a small amount of sand and sprinkled on top to get an even distribution

Those are growing well and looking great Corky.
Nice capture of the rosettes the young ferns initially take form as.
They do resemble young liverworts.

Haha Corky!
Actually had to convince myself, at first, that I wasn't growing a pot full of liverworts.

Well this salad is looking less and less like liverworts, just got to hope they're what they're supposed to be, might be splitting a few up from the gang ,don't want all my eggs in one basket

Looking less like liverworts, and morphing into their bladderworts leaf phase. Someone's battalion is winning the Spore War. Nice work there Corky! Have you hit them with a dilute fertilizer yet? dvg

If they do turn out to be true, there will be a record here of what the young sporelings look like. Some tree ferns of this species are known to produce red fronds when young - a highly desired trait. Keep us updated on these too, please! dvg

Blimey that year went quickly, the plants are speeding up in growth again and I need to separate these into pots and to the great outdoors with most of them . I'll probably keep some on the windowsill as insurance, the ones I separated and left outside for the winter have only just started to put out new leaves and don't look half as good as these at the moment

Corky, those have really progressed well for you from that last photo posted here.
The fronds look completely different now.
Excellent work getting them to this stage Corky, they're looking very lush!

The plants I kept inside last winter on the windowsill are still there ,I never got around to potting them up ,and the outdoor pot left outside last winter has well and truly taken the lead. the windowsill pot hardly looks any different the outside pot has progressed much better ,think I'll leave the outside pot where it is unless a very cold spell is predicted this winter and leave the windowsill pot where it is and pot up next spring

Two years after my first pics and this is about the largest of the bunch so far, it resembles what it's supposed to resemble, not all the plants look so good ,some fell on stoney ground, advanced looking plants on the left were put under lights from the windowsill takeaway container at the start of last winter , plants in the middle have just been potted up from the same container and the ones on the right are the pot I left outside for the winter split up and potted up hope they take off a bit as the weather seems perfect for ferns, if I wasn't so lazy and split all the plants up much earlier and under the lights I reckon they'd be at least twice the size but live and learn

if I wasn't so lazy and split all the plants up much earlier and under the lights I reckon they'd be at least twice the size Yeah, they would have been larger, taken up more space, and in the end, how many of them do you really need? Nice progress there, nonetheless Corky. dvg

An update on the sporelings ,I think some can be promoted to fernlings? If that's a thing.
Pretty sure this is the same fern as in the previous post and is still the most advanced but not by much , I do regret not growing these in stronger sunlight as the plants under the grow lights grew well over winter and I reckon the light was a lot stronger than in the shaded position they're in now ,I have moved one into stronger sunlight as an experiment and it seems to be doing ok so the rest may follow. A closer look, not the best pics as it's dusk
